This detector utilizes the photon drag effect in which holes created in a semiconductor by incident photons are dragged along in the direction of the photons, generating an electromotive force. The detector features high-speed response and offers high sensitivity at 10.6 µm. These features make the photon drag detector ideal for detection of CO2 lasers without the requirement for liquid nitrogen cooling. The surface of the detector element is coated with a non-reflective material.
